Digital India, Swachh Bharat And Tigers Adorn Republic Day Floats

Rare natural abode of Asiatic lions in Gir, Madhya Pradesh’s white tiger safari, works of BR Ambedkar and government programmes like ‘Swachh Bharat’ and ‘Digital India’ were among the themes this year for Republic Day tableaux.

A total of 23 tableaux were on display at the 67th Republic Day parade with 17 of them belonging to various states and Union Territories.

Six tableaux from Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New and Renewable energy, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Communication and IT, Panchayati Raj and Election Commission also found their place at the ceremonial parade on the Rajpath.

A slice of India’s culture on Rajpath

India’s military prowess and diverse cultural heritage were on display at the 67th Republic Day parade at the Rajpath on Tuesday. For the first time, a contingent from the French 35th Infantry Regiment was given the honour of leading the marching contingents. The celebrations began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi driving to the Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial at India Gate and laying a wreath in honour of the countless Indian soldiers who have died in battles since World War I.

Vice-President Hamid Ansari, the three service chiefs, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Cabinet Ministers, a host of dignitaries and a group of women achievers seated in a special enclosure were on hand to witness the hour-and-half long parade.

are on the list of 112 Padma awardees whose names were announced on Monday by the government.

 The awards will be given across three categories: the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. These awards are given on Republic Day, for the over six decades now, to people who the government recognises have excelled in their fields.

Modi bids warm farewell to Hollande, says France is special
